This makes me sad

DiggPinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I just saw the picture that was taken of Lizze, myself and the kids.  What’s the first thing you notice?

For me, the first thing I notice is Gavin off to the side.

This wasn’t done on purpose and it breaks my heart to see this. It’s like he’s disconnected from the rest of us. If we become aware of this before the picture is taken, we’ll pull him in.  However, if we do pull him in, it becomes obvious that he is uncomfortable.

He’s been this way for as long as I can remember.

Sometimes he does okay and blends in like nothings wrong and other times it’s a bad experience.

Do you see this with your kids on the Autism Spectrum?

Lost and Tired

I’m Rob Gorski and I started this blog in January 2010 as a means of sharing my family’s real life journey raising 3 boys on the #Autism Spectrum. It’s important for people to understand what Autism can really be like and the impact it has on the family. We aren’t a TV show and there are no actors. This is our struggle, our journey…and it’s all true. I am “Lost and Tired” and this is “My Reality #Autism”.

My aspie kiddo will make funny faces in all pictures, if someone calls her on it she makes nasty faces. Sad part is that my mother in law gets mad because my daughter keeps ruining the pictures. I say take what you can get granny or don't get any at all. Many times she will ask to not be in pictures and we oblige her. Know you are not alone.

Rob, if it makes you feel any better in my "no medical reason" associated teenage years there are no pictures that include me with my family past the age of 12 or 13, until 18 at my wedding to my first husband.  There are pics of my stepsisters and my Dad and step-mother, i am no where to be found.  It may just be a teen thing and not a diagnosed item.  I loved my Dad dearly and i did my best to love my stepmother and her daughters whether they liked it or not(turns out not).  But sometimes it's just not where you are in your own head right then, not on purpose but it happens.

It could simply be him being a teenager.

Show me one teenager who likes taking group pictures with his family.

Me I didn't like taking pictures. I prefer to be behind the camera taking the picture

I have a similar picture of the six kids in my family at my sisters wedding. We are all bunched together, but my brother w schizophrenia is off to the side. It's always bothered me.
