Daddy, can I come with you?

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Daddy,  can I come with you?  How many times do we here that in the course of the day?  Please note that you can insert Mommy into that as well.  I didn’t forget any of you amazing mothers out there :-)

I hear this question countless times a day.  Majority of the time it’s Emmett asking me the question.

Anytime I go to the store,  Emmett always asks if he can come with me.  Other times,  when the whole Lost and Tired family is in the car and all I have to do is run into the store for a prescription,  he wants to come as well.  It will literally take 2 minutes to run in and out.  By the time I get him out of his car seat,  navigate the store with him wanting everything he sees,  get what I need and get him back in the car seat,  it’s taken 10 times as long.

It’s frustrating, because many times I’m so tired and the last thing I want to do is drag this out anymore than I have to.

If I don’t take him with me,  he gets really upset and cries.

Nine times out of ten,  I’ll take him with me.  All he wants to do is spend time with me.  It not like it takes anymore than a bit of extra time and energy on my part.

As tired as I am,  I really think it’s important to take advantage of the time I have with him,  especially while he’s young and want to spend it with me.  On the days that I really don’t feel like bringing him along,  I remind myself that someday,  I wish I could go back to that moment and say,  yes Emmett,  of course you can come with me.

**Thanks for reading**

Does anything ever go as planned?

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Very few things ever seem to go as expected.  Lizze’s PT today was a bust because of a few reasons but basically the prescription was not right.

Hopefully this will get straightened out soon so she can reschedule.

It sucks when you mentally prepare for something,  only to have it fall through at the last minute.

Sigh…….??

6th Antibody Infusion: IV placed

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Gavin’s IV is finally in ace and the IgG infusion has begun.  The whole process takes a few hours but as time goes by,  and his body continues to tolerate the infusion,  the process will be sped up.

He did pretty well with the IV placement. He repeatedly asked the same questions over and over again but he’s didn’t scream.

They drew blood so that he doesn’t need a second needle poker on Monday in order to refill his Clozapine prescription.

He’s back to playing Phineas and Ferb on the PS3 and has phased everyone,  and everything,  out.

Now we just wait…….

Weekly becomes biweekly

For over 6 months now,  Gavin has been having his blood drawn every 7 days.  This is done to monitor is white blood cell count.

He’s only a medication called Clozapine for schizoaffective disorder.  Clozapine is the most tightly controlled drug in the US.

For the first 6 months,  he needs bloodwork every 7 days,  in order to refill his prescription for another 7 days.  We have reached a point where he will now be getting 14 days worth of pills at a time.

This means that he only needs his bloodwork done twice a month now.

It may not seem like much but to Gavin it’s a pretty big deal. After today,  it will be two weeks before he needs stuck with a needle again.

As far as today’s bloodwork went,  he did a really awesome job…..

Lost and Tired’s Android app of the day 12/03/2011

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Featured Android app of the day

Today’s featured app comes from Walgreens Pharmacy. The app is simply titled: Walgreens <—- Click here to download

The Lost and Tired house has been using this app since it was released. Basically, you can refill your prescription buy simply scanning the bar code on your prescription bottle with the camera on your Android device. Once you have successfully scanned the bar code, you select the location of the pharmacy nearest you. Everything is done automatically after that.

We manage a great deal of prescriptions, especially with my wife’s health issues. The app by Walgreens has helped to streamline and simplify things. I would whole heartedly recommend this app to anyone the uses Walgreens Pharmacy for their prescriptions.

I have used this app, myself, many times and it really does make things easier. You can also browse the Walgreens weekly ad and order photo prints from your local store as well.

Recommendations

I would highly recommend this app to anyone with an Android device that uses the Walgreens Pharmacy. As special needs parents, we have our hands full with everyday life. Anything that can make life just a little bit easier…..is a great thing.

This is an example of technology, truly making life a bit better.

Clozapine has been met with further delays….

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

We went to pick up the Clozapine prescription this morning and we were met with more “red tape” and further delays. Apparently Dr. R must have omitted a signature somewhere because the manufacturer wouldn’t release the medication to the pharmacy. Dr. R was out of the office today so we could not get this addressed today. Hopefully this will get fixed first thing in the morning. We did find out that the blood work results are good for 7 days, so we don’t have to worry about having to redraw his blood again. Hopefully everyone can get it together so we can get this done and get Gavin the help he desperately needs. This has been quite complicated already and we haven’t even started the Clozapine yet.

Here’s to hoping tomorrow is the day for new medications.

Clozapine was delayed Monday…

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

We were due to begin the Clozapine yesterday but ran into a snag. For some reason the we had not been added to the “registry” (yes…there is actually a registry for Clozapine).  properly. Gavin did get his first of many blood drawls done yesterday. I told him that it was ok to be scared or afraid. It was ok to be nervous. However, it was not ok to hit, kick or scream at the lab techs. I explained that if he could be VERY brave and do his best to keep control over his body I would take him for ice cream when we were done.

Gavin was nervous and started to panic in the moments leading up to the actual blood drawl but did not require much assistance to hold him down. When they stuck him with the needle he said “ouch” kinda loud but that was it. He did AMAZINGLY well. I’m very proud of him and he’s quiet pleased with himself. Hopefully we can do this going forward. The bad news came when we couldn’t get the meds last night. However, the good news is that the blood work from yesterday will still be ok for today so we don’t have to do it again. The prescription should get released to us sometime this afternoon. So we will probably start it tonight.
