Facing the fallout

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Gavin left last night to go back to his Grandparents house. He was home all week and while for the most part he was doing okay, the impact of him being home is being felt, even after his departure.

I refer to this impact as fallout.

Elliott and Emmett don’t get along very well when Gavin has been home for any period of time.

Truthfully, they don’t get along all the time anyway but it’s much worse when Gavin’s been involved. I’m not entirely sure what is behind this behavioral change in the boys but I suspect it has to do with everything they have been through when Gavin actually lived here full time.

The boys absolutely love Gavin but at the same time have learned to fear him as well. It’s very confusing for them and I think that tends to lead to them becoming overstimulated very quickly when he’s home.

From there it’s an overstimulation roller coaster ride…..

I’m hoping that this weekend will bring with it a sense of peace  and feeling of safety for the boys….

Operation Hope: The push for residential care begins

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

This morning, we will be meeting with Wraparound and attempting to pull off the impossible.  I will be leading this meeting and we will not be leaving that room until every last one of us is on the same goddamm page.

It’s become painfully obvious that not everyone is on  the same page and that’s going to change, beginning this morning.

image

Here’s how this is going to work.  Your either with us or your against us.

Sure, that probably sounds dramatic but unfortunately, it’s become a necessary evil because not everyone recognizes that Gavin has significant problems and needs way more help than he can get at home.

I feel like this lack of unity is delaying any progress on the funding front and I’m  done playing nice.

Anyone who is involved in Operation Hope and does not have Gavin’s best interest at heart, will be removed.

The reason this is necessary is because if we don’t all accept the facts involved in this case and stop pretending that Gavin is the victim here, we will never be able to get him the help he needs.

I fully realize how difficult it can be to accept the fact that Gavin has no conscience and doesn’t really care about anyone but himself, but this is a fact.  This doesn’t mean that Gavin is a bad person, it means that Gavin’s brain has a few wiring issues and these issues dictate who he is and what he does.

Please wish us luck as we attempt to squeeze oil out of a turnip and find the funding necessary to get Gavin the help that he needs.

This is not really an Autism thing.  This is a reactive attachment, schizoaffective, bipolar and Odd thing.

Like Mommy like Son

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

The other day, Emmett and Lizze were both having another rough time.  They ended up falling asleep together on the couch. It was really cute to see them both passed out on the couch…..

Please support Lizze’s #Mamavation Mom Application!!!

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

MamavationSo I belong to a mommy blogging community that focuses on supporting moms in a sorority fashion while we try to change or lives and get healthy is accepting applications for their Mamavation Mom Program. The program is 7 weeks long and supports selected moms through the use of pedometers, heart rate monitors and diet changes to get healthy and lose weight. This is going completely outside of my comfort zone, but…

♥★♥★♥★♥★♥★♥★I’ve applied for the program!♥★♥★♥★♥★♥★♥★

I want to do this. BAD. Really, really bad! I’ve done my part. I filled out my application. I filmed my application video, with Rob’s help. I turned it all in.

Now, I need your help.

If you have a Twitter account please tweet the following post:

Hey @bookieboo! I want (@fibromamaby3) to be the next #Mamavation Mom. She has my support! http://bit.ly/aorv3Y

If you’re on Facebook account and are my friend, please post the following post (making sure to tag me – if you don’t type my name yourself it won’t show up):

Hey @bookieboo! I want (@Elizabeth Gorski) to be the next #Mamavation Mom. She has my support! http://bit.ly/aorv3Y

If we aren’t friends on Facebook yet, but you’d like to support me please send me a friend request so we can fix that because I’d love to be friends with you. (Really, I would! I love to make new friends, online. :-) {lol}) Then after we are friends, please post the message above.

This part of the application process is important for me to show that I have friends and family online who love and support me. That you support my decision to get healthy and will be there for me when things get hard.

Please help me hopefully get accepted. This really does mean a lot to me.

Please poop in a bag

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

We were at the pediatrician’s office this morning for Elliott.  Inside the office is this sign that says,  please be kind don’t leave poop behind. I think it’s hilarious but today was even funnier because Emmett wanted me to read the sign to him.

This is a video of that experience. Enjoy.

Reframing: Creative solutions to #Autism related challenges

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I mentioned last night that Elliott has to go to the doctors because he’s getting sicker and with him having asthma, we have to be very careful.

We also have to be careful how we present to him that he’s going to the doctors as he has significant anxiety issues and doctors are at the very top of that list.

This morning when  I broke the news to him that he was going to see the doctor today, panic immediately set in.
In an attempt to reframe this situation and help him feel better about going, I changed my approach. I had already assured him that there would be no shots or bloodwork. They just need to make sure that he’s not developing bronchitis or pneumonia.

When telling the truth didn’t make him feel better or calm his anxiety, I tried a different approach.  I reframe the reason for the appointment and he has relaxed.

I told him that because he’s sick and needs to be home from school for so long, we need a note from his doctor so that we don’t get in trouble for not sending him to school.  Before we can get the note, the doctor needs to check him out real quick, just to make sure he’s really sick.

All of a sudden,  Elliott was like “oh……okay”.

That was it.

Hopefully this will hold true as we actually leave and get closer to the physical building.

In all my years of special needs parenting, I’ve found that the creative solutions seems to work the best.

Hope this helps.  :-)

I’m worried

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I’m really worried about Lizze. She’s not doing very well with this whole thing, not that anyone is, but she’s absolutely hit the hardest.

She’s a bundle of nerves right now, raw, exposed nerves.

I need this meeting on Friday to be super productive because we are very quickly running out of time.  We are going to reach a point where it will be too little too late.

Everyone has their breaking point.  Everyone reaches a point where their spirit can be broken.  Things like that are very difficult to recover from. This is just getting to be too much.

Now, I’m off to bed.  I want to once again express my most humble and sincere thank you for all the love and support you have all shown us.  I will never forget that.  :-) Have a peaceful night.
