Finding the positive in every day

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

While today was far from perfect, we did have our share of victories as well.  I wanted to share two of them with you all.

Personally, I feel that it’s really, really important to try and find some positive in every single day.

I totally understand that it’s not always possible and it’s certainly not easy to focus on something positive, especially when things are at their worst.  This is just something that I have taken on as a personal challenge.

Today’s victory is the fact that there were moments in the day where I watched my kids getting along really well.  Gavin and Emmett were working on a Lego thing and then Elliott and Emmett were sharing the iPad together.

It’s moments like this that really help me through the darker, more unpleasant times.

I would certainly encourage you all to try to find something positive to focus on each day. It won’t always be possible, trust me, I know. If you can however, it does really seem to help.

Something I would never do is criticize someone for being unable to see the positive. All of our journeys are different and the paths we take are different as well. Some of us have more bumps in the road and some of us have a smoother ride.

This is just something that I’m trying really hard to do.

I wish you all the very best. 🙂

Today’s #Autism Victory: Learning new skills

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

This evening, Gavin went down into the basement, all by himself and cleaned out the litter box. Our basements a bit on the creepy side but he didn’t let that stop him.

He says that he enjoys cleaning out the litter box.

I’m not sure that I’m happy he enjoys it because that seems a bit strange but I’m thrilled that he’s taking this on and learning something new.

To some people, this may jot seem like a big deal.  In truth, I suppose it isn’t.  Having said that, what is really wonderful about this is the fact that despite his continued regression, he’s able to still learn new things.

As far as I’m concerned, this goes into the victory column.

Great job Gavin…..

While this picture has nothing to do with this post, it’s a lot more pleasant than a dirty litter Vox and this happens to be one of Gavin’s favorite flowers.  🙂

Today’s #Autism Victory: Playing together

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I want to recognize both Emmett and Gavin today because of how well they got along this morning.  Gavin was patient with Emmett and Emmett was patient with Gavin

It’s not that they don’t ever get along.

Typically, Gavin tends to sorta hoard more of whatever they happen to be playing.  He usually controls enough of what’s going on so that he never loses.  This has been a long standing issue and something that really upsets the boys.

Having said that, Gavin did really well this morning.  He didn’t take everything over or try to control the outcome.

Great job Gavin.  Great job Emmett.  🙂

Today’s Major #Autism Victory: Perseverance and Good Choices

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Gavin had a totally awesome day today. He’s been making really good choices and has been a big help around the house.

I fully expect that we’ll have our share of bad days but that will just make the good ones even better.

Right now Gavin’s in a pretty good place.

He’s still every bit as psychotic as he’s ever been but it’s not very dark and it’s relatively non-violent. He’s also doing his best to contain his visibly challenged friends to his room.

They don’t always listen to him but he’s trying and I give him all the credit in the world.

Lizze and I are both really proud of him. We always try to make sure he knows that as well. He hasn’t had a major tantrum in awhile and that’s awesome.

I wanted to make sure to share this picture from today. He spent a lot of time working on this Lego robot and even though it fell apart several times, he kept his cool and never have up.

I love his smile in this picture. He’s happy and at peace and I can’t tell you how good it feels to see that.

He’s been through so much and his life will always be an uphill battle but if anyone can do it, it’ll be Gavin. 🙂

Today’s #Autism Victory: Here’s mine, share yours

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Most parents think it’s nice to see your kids getting along.  I’m no exception to this. In fact, I live to see my kids getting along.

Today, Elliott and Emmett were snuggling on the couch and sharing the iPad.

This is a huge victory for the Lost and Tired family. Lately, the boys haven’t been getting along all that well. They did today though and that is something that I gratefully accept. 🙂

Today’s #Autism Victory: Folding Clothes

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I meant to share this the other day but better late than never.  Right?

Friday night I was putting Emmett and Elliott to bed.  Emmett decided that he wanted to make sure his clothes, which he had just put on, we’re folded nicely and ready to go in the morning.

He did this completely on his own and without any prompting.

He did such a good job that I had to share and acknowledge his accomplishments.

Great job Emmett, Daddy is sooooo proud of you.

Today’s #Autism Victory: Brotherly Love

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Today’s victory is one that I’m very, very proud of.  For a little while this morning, Elliott and Emmett were getting along and even working together on a game.

Right before I snagged this picture, Emmett had his head on Elliott’s shoulder.

It was so precious.

The rest of the day was hit and miss but mostly miss.  However, I have this moment of peace and tranquility to remember.  It’s these moments that help to make it through the really tough ones.
