The boys are awesome at school but there’s a hitch

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

The boys had another good day at school. There are a few things that Lizze and I have to address with the school. It’s more of a clarification than anything else.

Elliott is upset because he’s been eating lunch alone. He claims that he’s not allowed to eat with the kids that are buying their lunches, simply because he’s packing his.

Now I know that they separate the kids with food allergies but this sounds different and I need clarification, as ton what’s happening.

It may be a simple misunderstanding.

Gavin is getting in trouble because he’s falling asleep in the morning.  They use a point system this year for behavioral stuff and he’s losing points for falling asleep.

We need to make sure that the teacher knows that this is not his fault.

His falling asleep is medical/medication related and outside of his control. I’m sure once we explain this to his teacher, all will be right with the world.

As far as Emmett’s concerned, he had “yet another, awesome day”. His words not mine.  🙂

I’m so happy that the boys are doing so well again this year.  They’re still getting into the groove of things but they’re doing awesome and Lizze and I are very proud.

We had a pretty smooth morning

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

Everyone got off to school in one trip and on time.  Emmett and Elliott were in rare form this morning but we survived.

Gavin was his usual cooperative self and gave us no problems.

Emmett didn’t want to go to school today and he put up a small fight but he eventually came around.  All in all, today was pretty smooth and I’m really grateful for that.  🙂

He wouldn’t let me walk him in

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

Emmett is fiercely independent and always has been.  Don’t get me wrong, that not necessarily a bad thing, at least all the time.  However, this is only his second day of school and he wouldn’t let me walk him in.

That was kinda tough.

I don’t want him to struggle but at the same time, it was just so easy for him to move on, it kinda hurts.  Perhaps that a bit narcissistic but I bet at least someone out there understands what I mean.

Regardless, while Daddy’s adjusting to all this, I’m sad but at the same time, extremely proud and relieved.

The 1st Day of School 2013/2014

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

The boys had fantastic days at school today.  Elliott and Gavin did amazing.

While Lizze and I were signing the IEP paperwork, the kids came into the office.  When Emmett walked in and saw us, he began sobbing.  It wasn’t his typical cry either.

It was like his body was so overwhelmed that he had to purge and purge he did.  He did so for almost 20 minutes.

He did really well today but apparently he made a mistake while writing his name in art class, right before he was brought to us in the office.  Eventually, he told us that he had made a mistake and was upset with himself.

I think he was just overwhelmed by everything today and his little soul could only take so much.

Either way, he’s excited to return in the morning, and that’s a good thing.  🙂

Signing off on the IEP today

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

We have to get to the school early today to pick up the boys because we need to finish Gavin’s IEP and sign off on testing for Emmett.

They asked us to come in about 15 minutes early, so we can get that stuff done.

Not a great deal of fun but it’s quick and painless, so I can’t complain. I can’t wait to see how the boys did on their first day. 🙂

Orientation went great

DiggGoogle+PinterestLinkedInReddit

I wanted to let you all know how orientation at the boys school went.  First of all, Elliott ended up not going. Instead he spent some time with Grandma Gorski.

The rest of us went and met the boys new teachers and visited the classrooms.

Everyone is really excited and I feel like this is going to be an exceptionally positive year for everyone.  I think that Elliott will do just fine and perhaps we will make another trip out before school starts next month.
