40 Days of Water

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I have recently accepted a challenge.  This challenge will help lead to better health and help me to practice self control.

A little while ago, Lizze stumbled across something on one of her Mommy Blogs that pertained to improving ones health.  The challenge was to give up all beverages with the exception of water,  for forty days.

There are obvious health benefits to this.  Things like detoxing the body, proper hydration and weight loss.

I’m going to take this challenge up and beginning Monday, February 18th, I will drink only water for a total of 40 days.  Who knows, I may get used to this and make it a more permanent thing.

Anyone else want to join me?

We can all share our progress and help motivate each other.

I need feedback so I can help

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I’m working  really hard to partner with companies that want to provide products for giveaways.  My recent partnership with Idolian means that I will be able to giveaway android tablets on a regular basis.

To me, this is really cool.

My goal has always been to help people.  My hope is that by providing the opportunity to obtain a tablet at no cost, I’m doing just that.

image

I’ve just started another partnership that will allow me to giveaway accessories for popular devices that are used by people everyday.

My question  is, what kinds of products would benefit your family?

Obviously I can’t promise I can do that but it will give me a sense of direction.

Off the top of my head, I can envision future giveaways that could provide things like flash cards, tablets, sensory friendly clothing, weighted blankets, grocery gift cards etc.

Would these be helpful?

I know that any of them would be helpful to my family.

My dream at this point is to be able to make a difference in people’s lives.  Maybe not a huge difference, but enough to improve their lives,  even just a little.  I want them to know that someone out there cares about them and their family.

Families like mine work so hard for everything.  I know what that’s like and I know difficult it can be.  I also know that we don’t typically ask for help either.  However, I want to provide helpful things via the giveaway route as often as I can.

In order to keep these companies interested in doing this, we need to get as much participation as possible.  You can enter to win these items for yourself or someone else.  You don’t have to be autistic or have an autistic child to enter either.  While I would like to think that every device will go to a family that benefits, I need to keep the interest high so that more people can have a chance to win something that can help their family.

Check back frequently because I will try to add new ways to enter as often as I can.

I do this because I truly admire and respect all of you and I know what it’s like to be parents to our amazing kids.  I don’t get paid to do this.

I just want to help. That’s it. No strings attached.

All I ask is that you help me spread the word about these giveaways.  The more attention they get the more the companies benefit and the more they are will to help.

Thanks a lot everyone.  I really appreciate all of you.  :-)

Twitter Tuesday

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

Social media has been a huge help to my site. However, I utilize it in a relatively one dimensional way. Basically, I use to to help network this site but never really spend any time there. Does that make sense? One of the things I wanted to do this year was improve upon that by spending more time on Twitter and building new relationships and connections.

image

I think that when you are a blogger, the focus becomes your blog, at least for me. However, if my goal is to reach more people and spread more autism awareness, I need to branch out a bit and lose my tunnel vision. In all honesty, I don’t avoid doing these things on purpose, it’s just that most of the time, it’s all I can do to keep up with this blog. I’m going to try something a bit different and see how it goes. Every Tuesday, I’m going to spend time focusing on Twitter and my Twitter friends. I want to get to know people better and perhaps even meet some new friends as well. I really want to help as many people as I can and sometimes, even I need to stray outside of my comfort zone. By the way, you can follow me on Twitter @Lost_and_Tired

A couple of things

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

I wanted to let ya’ll know that I’m going to be pretty hit and miss for the next day or so.  Lizze has her final infusion in the morning and I’ll have the boys to look after while she’s recovering from this procedure.

I also have a video review of the new tablet I have to giveaway as well as a few posts that I’m slowly working on.

I’m gonna share a few of my favorite posts so that my new readers have a chance to check them out during the down time.

Also, LiveFyre seems to have gotten everything worked out. All comments have been successfully imported and I thank them for all their support.  To be honest, I’ve never seen a company support a product or service quite like LiveFyre does.  :-)

I’m hoping to put up another tablet giveaway by the end of the week.  These are truly nice tablets and can stand toe to toe with the iPad mini.  Stay tuned for more information in the next day or so.

Commenting problems again

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

If I had any hair left, I would be pulling it all out.  This whole commenting fiasco just never quits.  I had moved back to intense debate because LiveFyre was having problems.

Well, intense debate is having problems as well.

Comments aren’t showing up.  If and when they do, it’s multiple times.  Other times comments are disappearing.
Listening to your feedback is so important to both me and #Autism Awareness in general.  I’m working group hard to provide a reliable commenting system.

I have decided to make the move back to Livefyre because I really do feel it’s the best system available.  The issues I was having,  I believe have been resolved.  If you experience any issues with leaving a comment, please let me know via email. Also, if you do have an issue,  like you can’t submit your comment, clear your Internet cache.  This seems to most troublesome for people using iOS devices like iPads or iPhones.

I’m hoping to get any missing comments imported by LiveFyre.

Thank you for your patience, help and understanding.

My Sunbeam heating pad caught fire while I was using it

PinterestLinkedInRedditShare/Bookmark

This morning, I was using our 2 year old Sunbeam therapeutic heating pad for my back. I had it set on a medium setting and I had it flat up against my lower back. I had my pillow behind me for lumbar support.

Within a few minutes of turning the heating pad on, I began to smell what I thought was an electrical fire. The smell wasn’t to bad at first and it went away but got worse after about 10 minutes of using the heating pad.

We unplugged it just to be safe. I got up to go put the heating pad away so that it didn’t get used again.

Upon standing up, this is what I found. The heating pad appears to have caught fire or was at the very least smoldering. The heating pad had burnt through itself, through my pillow case and into my pillow.

Obviously, this is very concerning and could have been disastrous.

image

Obviously, if I hadn’t had Lizze unplug it when I did, I would have been burned.

However, most concerning for me is that Emmett was leaning up against me as well. He could have been burnt as well.

This is really scary and could have ended in tragedy. The instructions clearly state Not to fall asleep while using. However, that’s something that has happened in the past. This thing has a sleep timer so that it shuts off after a set amount of time.

Imagine if I had accidentally fallen asleep.

I’m contacting Sunbeam to let them know what happened and find out what they want me to do.

I don’t want this to happen to anyone else. Next time, someone could really be hurt.
