Part RAD, Part Normal Preteen Defiance

Life would be so much easier if Gavin would listen instead of challenging everything we tell him.

Much of this is related to reactive attachment disorder. 

Having said that, there is also a part of this that is probably normal, almost teenage defiance. The problem is that it’s really hard to know where one ends and the other begins.

I remember that with my OCD/anxiety driven son, it became so hard to tell where it was really bad behavior and where is was the disorder taking over....it got very ugly and very confusing, that's when I gave up parenting him on my own and got professional help.  Still not always easy, but certainly helps to have outside eyes and professionalism supporting you (and in his case medication and therapies). I know it's baffling to some degree...like...what now???...is being teenagery...(as I call it :)....or is that just non-NT behaviors showing through??

I often wonder, especially with Caleb where does the normal active and rambunctious 6 year old boy end and ADHD begin. The autism for him is slightly easier to pinpoint out.

funny, I feel the exact same way with my 2 year old and his tantrums....some of it just has to be that's he's 2 right?
